That is an awesome movie I watched yesterday! It's about a widower who returns to his hometown to search for answers to his wife's murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a murdered ventriloquist.
Directed by the director of "Saw", James Wan and written by Leigh Whannell (screenplay) and James Wan (story), ... With main actors Ryan Kwanten, Amber Valletta and as police officer Donnie Wahlberg and villain, (Mary Shaw) Judith Roberts!

Mary Shaw and Billy (the ventriloque)

Comfort
